Zeitgeist - Deus Ex Machina

The Meeting
"I arrived first!" -- Marian Stillwater

The Derps are summoned to the conference room. There is Saxby, older military gentleman with a monocle (Nigel Price Hill, basically a snitch), and Stover Delft. In the corner lurks a burly looking Elf in heavy plate that looks very uncomfortable. Saxby claims there have been “scandals” and that is why Nigel is there. Of course she would try to cover her ass.

It was all a farce. Nigel talked out of the side of his mouth and the Derps knew he was only there to help Saxby get rid of them all. She was a horrible troll who was scared her corruption and politics would be revealed for what they were.

Chance takes the opportunity to vent her frustration over the process and points out that the higher echelons should be scrutinized before the common folk, since so far the problem is coming from the King’s own.

Why are they armed?

The Derps take a night to rest and regroup before they go to issue their arrest warrant for Reed Macbannin.

Gerard Pentecost joins Chance Ledoux at the Salty Soldier tavern for a drink and finds himself still at the pub in the morning.

At the mayor’s mansion near Cauldron Hill the Derps enter casually under the guise of seeking aid for Rufus. Once there, they are told to wait in a rather pleasant garden filled with various servants. Mayor Macbannin enters to help, but is soon served as Gerard breaks out the warrant.

Of course this leads to a battle as the mayor shakes his fist in sarcasm and commands his servants to attack. Furniture is thrown, shots are fired, sink holes of witch oil bubble and soon The Derps realize that the hurting the mayor kills his servants. Marian Stillwater takes out three minions with a single shot of her revenge filled gun. It is with single determination they eliminate the minions, bringing the mayor to his knees.

The earth trembles and the mayor claims he can stop the hill from collapsing in on itself. Reluctantly they follow him down a stairwell, where they find a dead woman with several amulets, that leads to the Bleak and probably more problems.

The Plot Thickens
bolted to the rib cage

At RHC headquarters The Derps discuss their plans for the day. Marian Stillwater and Gerard Pentecost believe that Nevard Secum could be attacked by people from the Bleak Gate and/or “cats.” The cats have metal plates bolted to their rib cage in order to protect their vile Witch Oil. Just as Gerard says, “Zombie bomb cats,” Chance Ledoux enters and gives them both her best not amused look.

With that they decide to head to Dawn Square [ GM inserts bad pun here] to hear what Nevard has to say.

Despite their best efforts The Derps soon discover that nothing in life is fair [Thanks DM]. Zombie bomb cats and false druid skeletons appear to ruin their day as Nevard tries to speak.

Battle ensues and braziers are toppled in a futile attempt to kill Nevard. Split to either side of the stage Chance keeps the southern cats occupied with her face, Marian and Gerard handled the northern cats handily.

With bravery and luck The Derps triumph and receive Nevard’s vision of the future.

A very trippy, drug addled future.

Message to Gale from Marian

In order to secure our cooperation, the attacks on the factories must stop. This is non-negotiable. You would agree, I believe, that our resources and influence would be put to better use in working on our mutual concerns. We have arrayed against us a legion of wealthy, powerful, and some still unknown foes; ones that will not be swayed by a few fires.

I am placing a document in the postbox of my apartment. Please retrieve it for review.

See Addendum 1: The Cost of Rebuilding (A rather extensive 48 page document examining the losses in profit and equipment caused by recent terrorist attacks – which many factory workers are beginning to adjust for by reducing wages and extending hours for workers – showing that these losses are negligible compared to the amount of gold being made by the factory owners and investors.)

The Doctor
Really hate Lorken

After the dust from all the paperwork settled, The Derps go to retrieve the good doctor Wolfgang Von Reklinhausen from Lorken Kell. With little fanfare he directs his man Rufus to guide The Derps to the doctor, in a super poor part of town.

After convincing the doctor they were not there to kill him, they are set upon by non-human characters.

A shadowy figure suddenly appears and attacks Chance Ledoux with a claw attack. She falls, the doctor heals her and she uses her snapleaf to go invisible, moving away.

The Widowspeaker attacks Shadow Man and in the other room Gerard Pentecost takes down one of the minions.

The Shadow man, or possibly Leone Quital, escapes out the entrance with the doctor and The Derps are left to search for the documents on their own. After their discovery they escape from the underground church through a privy tunnel.

Wand Smuggling
gnomes be snitches

Once The Derps subdued the would-be “smugglers” they were able to garner enough information from the WaryEye Gnomes to plan a course of action. They took the smuggler ship and with the help of the Gnomes convinced the wand carrying ship they were legit.

They were quickly discovered to be not smugglers by the Captain Amba, who quickly surrendered after saying very little.
With the ship and the wands captured they returned to the RHC as heroes.

Pine Island
The Raid?

The Derps prepare to raid the warehouse that holds the smuggled weapons that Lorken Kell mentioned.

The drop was supposed to happen at midnight, because that is when bad people do bad things.

With a great lack of stealth they roll up on the smuggling ship before they are able to set sail. With a mighty, “Don’t raise your sails!” Gerard Pentecost announces their arrival.

Battle ensues.

That Cold Hill
We All Gonna Die

The Derps went to Nevard Secum’s home and agreed to escort him to “the hill.” It apparently was a horrible place that would give Nevard the ability to learn something useful. Each member had to bleed into a cup of milk to ensure the Skyseer would survive. This also meant that if Nevard was harmed so to would each member.

The morning was spent preparing for the journey and also involved a visit to Reed Macbannin in order to receive some last minute assistance.

The Mayor gave each person a rusty iron amulets that were supposed to keep them safe from possession. He also provided them with goats blood to help keep their camp safe.

The blood would not help.

In the middle of the night it got cold and then The Derps started to get visions as though they were tripping. Nilasa made an appearance and warned them that her killer was approaching. Shortly after, their camp was surrounded by Cauldron hill shadowmites and other unsavory creatures. Hoping to avoid their attention the group remained as silent as possible, but this helped little as a shadowy figure threw a sunrod into the middle of their camp.

With the shadowmites attention now on The Derps it was do or die time, emphasis on the die part.

Fortunately everyone survived.. well.. except for Aemon Huntinghawk. Due to his bravery, the others were able to defeat the assailants and make it back down the hill with the knowledge that Nevard had gained.

Lammer's Theatre
That Stupid Guy

The Derps looked up at the person they assumed was Lorken Kell and were unimpressed. They had played his game and graciously allowed themselves to be lured to Lammer’s Theatre.
Once Mr. Kell stopped clapping he invited them up to his private booth, but first his man Seymour was to remove their weapons.
Chance Ledoux was not going to have it and refused to give up her pistols. Mr. Kell did not appreciate this and made it clear that it was either his way or death. Luckily Marian Stillwater was able to convince him that letting Chance go would not cause any harm and so the gunslinger waited outside while the others spoke to the vile man.
A not amusing “show” was put on for the rest of the Derps remaining and Mr. Kell made them an offer they felt to be “fair.”
Given the information he was able to provide The Derps agreed to Mr. Kell’s offer and left with the information they had gained.

The Rescue
So Many Hipsters

Lots of talking. Trying to be slick, got caught. More talking. Not really sure what happened. Then some shooting. Rescuing some chick, named Mareena , that was kidnapped. It was awkward. Kind of made friends with Renard.
